Yes, a 1.5 liter turbo engine weighing only 88 lbs (40 kg) that produces 400 hp, it's called the DIG-T R. So forget about electric motors that need to be recharged and hydrogen cells, the future may be this little bugger. It's only 20 inches (50 cm) tall and 8 inches (20 cm) wide.
This little engine is being tested in a vehicle called the ZEOD RC which is short for Zero Emission On Demand Racing Car.
The ZEOD RC
is Nissan's attempt towards reducing size while increasing efficiency in an effort to develop a more efficient gas-electric
hybrid engine.
Nissan
says that the main problem in developing the DIG-T R for the ZEOD RC was
cutting down on friction, Nissan
worked closely with Total to come up with
better fuels and lubricants to take care of internal friction.
In June it will
take part in the Le Mans 24 Hour, lessons learned from the ZEOD RC will
be used in Nissan’s entry in the LM P1 class of the FIA World Endurance
Championship in 2015.
