There are a few new versions of popular winter tires which are currently available for sale and some deletions:
Michelin now has an X-ice Xi3 (replacing the Xi2) has placed 5th in PMC tire tests. (Since the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 and Hakkapeliitta R have been discontinued.)
Two other new entrants into the winter tire space are Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 (replaces Hakkapeliitta R) and Yokohama Iceguard IG52C (Replaces Yokohama Iceguard IG20)
According to PMC tire overall winter rating (2013-2014 sheet not yet produced) the new rating will most likely look like this: (unofficial results)
1. Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 Studded
2. Yokohama - IceGuard IG52C
3. Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7
4. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
5. Michelin X-Ice Xi3
6. Vredestein - Snowtrac 3
7. Vredestein - Arctrac
8. Bridgestone - Blizzak WS-70
9. Nokian Nordman 4 Studded
10. Toyo - Observe GSi-5
Any one of these tires wood be a great choice for safe winter driving. So go for whichever winter tire you can get at a good price on or comes with a manufacturers rebate.Keep in mind that studded tires produce much more road noise than unstudded ones. I will let you know once the new official winter tire list is out.
